Why Is Stamped Concrete So Popular?
Stamped concrete continues to grow in popularity because it can mimic the look of natural materials like stone, wood, brick, and tile. The options are nearly endless!
Here’s What Makes It Stand Out:
- Wide Variety of Designs: Choose from many colors and patterns to create the perfect look.
- Durable and Long-Lasting: When installed and maintained properly, it can last for decades.
- Faster Installation: Typically installed twice as fast as natural stone or pavers.
- Customizable: Add unique designs, logos, or one-of-a-kind patterns.
- Low Maintenance: Requires occasional washing and resealing every few years.
- Resistant to Heavy Use: Handles moisture and heavy traffic better than some alternatives.
- Light Reflectivity: Light-colored options can reflect sunlight, keeping surfaces cooler.
How We Create Stamped Concrete
Stamped concrete is both a science and an art. Here’s a quick look at how the process works:
- 1. Coloring the Concrete: We add an integral color admixture to the concrete truck before pouring the slab.
- 2. Preparing the Surface: Once the concrete is poured and begins to firm up, we ensure it’s ready for stamping (slightly firm but not too hard).
- 3. Applying Release Agent: A powdered or liquid release agent is applied to prevent the stamps from sticking and to create an antique finish (secondary color).
- 4. Stamping the Design: Rubber stamps are pressed into the surface, leaving behind the desired texture or pattern.
- 5. Pressure Wash: On the next day, remove the excess powder.
- 6. Finishing Touches: After the concrete cures, we cut in expansion joints as needed and apply a high-quality sealer.
The finished product is a beautiful, durable surface that looks like slate, wood, stone, or even tile.
